Gina Carano’s highly anticipated return to the MMA world ended in a swift defeat against Ronda Rousey, but the former fighter is embracing the experience rather than dwelling on the loss. In just 17 seconds, Carano was submitted, but she remains proud of her journey back to the cage after nearly two decades away.

Carano, who shed an impressive 100 pounds to prepare for this moment, reflected on her fight in a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram. “This was one of the best rides of my life,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for the support of her team and the adrenaline that fueled her on fight night.

Despite the quick finish, Carano was candid about the challenges she faced leading up to the fight. “I wanted to throw, battle, win, but I kicked when I should have moved,” she admitted. “If I hadn’t tapped, she would’ve broken my arm, as it had begun to crackle. The disappointment of losing like that is very humbling.”

After the bout, Carano received encouragement from UFC legend Jon Jones, who was present at the event. “He said, ‘You haven’t fought in 17 years? Do you know how big your balls have to be to get back in there after that long? Respect!’” Carano recalled, highlighting how much those words meant to her coming from a champion of his caliber.

Returning to training after such a long hiatus was no easy feat. Carano worked diligently with the coaches at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas, pushing herself through rigorous workouts and a strict diet. “I felt like a science experiment losing 100 pounds,” she shared, noting the intense pressure she felt each week to meet her goals.

The California Athletic Commission ensured that Carano met all necessary requirements, conducting multiple tests and checks leading up to the fight. “I needed to go through this fight to implement permanent lifestyle changes,” she stated, optimistic about her future and eager to see how far she can push her limits.

While the loss was disappointing, Carano hasn’t ruled out the possibility of stepping back into the octagon. She expressed appreciation for MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian for their support and praised Rousey for her role in making the fight happen.

“I’m so glad the world got to experience this version of Ronda Rousey,” Carano said, celebrating the mutual respect they share. “We made history, again. Thank you ALL for showing your support. It’s because of you we get to face our fears and live our dreams.”
