Reality TV personality Jana Duggar is speaking publicly for the first time after her older brother, Joseph Duggar, was arrested on child molestation charges that have once again shaken the Duggar family.
In a statement shared to her Instagram Stories on April 2, Jana said the allegations against her brother came as a complete shock to the family and claimed they had no knowledge of the investigation before it became public.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the situation involving my brother, Joseph,” Jana wrote. “Our hearts are with the child who has been harmed — this is a grievous and unacceptable wrong.”
The 36-year-old former Counting On star also emphasized that the family is praying for the alleged victim and for justice to be served as the legal process unfolds.
Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested in Arkansas on March 18 before later being extradited to Florida. Authorities accuse him of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl during a family vacation in Panama City Beach in 2020.
Court documents show Joseph faces two felony charges involving lewd and lascivious conduct, including molestation of a child under the age of 12. He has pleaded not guilty and requested a jury trial.
Following a court appearance, a judge set his bond at $600,000. As part of his release conditions, Joseph is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with minors — including his own four children with wife Kendra Duggar.
The scandal has reopened painful memories for the Duggar family, who previously faced intense public scrutiny following the conviction of Joseph’s older brother, Josh Duggar, in a separate child sexual abuse material case.
Several Duggar siblings have already spoken out publicly, including Jinger Duggar, who described the situation as “heartbreaking” and “unthinkable” during a recent podcast episode with husband Jeremy Vuolo.
Meanwhile, Joseph and Kendra are also facing separate misdemeanor charges in Arkansas related to child welfare and false imprisonment allegations. Authorities have stated those charges are unrelated to the Florida molestation case.
As the investigation continues, the Duggar family once again finds itself at the center of a deeply disturbing legal controversy that has sparked intense reactions online and renewed scrutiny over the family’s past.
