Fans were delighted with the return of the โweird chicken danceโ and raved about the โamazing stageโ on Twitter.
Seventeen countries then competed in Tel Aviv for a place in Saturdayโs final.
Ten countries made it through and the second semi-final will take place on Thursday also from 8-10pm on BBC4.

Rylan Clark Neal and Scott Mills will form the same commentary team for both shows.
This yearโs UK representative, Michael Rice, is automatically entered into Saturdayโs final, with Rylan explaining that it is one of the Big Five โ countries that are the biggest financial contributors to the European Broadcast Union.
It has been 20 years on since Israel hosted the Eurovision. Portugalโs capital Lisbon hosted the classic show in 2018.
