Lucasfilm and Disney have locked in May 22, 2026 as the official theatrical release date for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, ending a seven-year absence of Star Wars from the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. With just days until release, the film has already generated significant momentum, with early tracking pointing toward a $70 million to $100 million four-day opening weekend in the United States and Canada.

The Mandalorian and Grogu' LA premiere red carpet: Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver and more

The film picks up after the events of The Mandalorian season 3, with Din Djarin now working for the fledgling New Republic alongside his apprentice Grogu. Pedro Pascal returns as the titular bounty hunter, joined by Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, a former Rebel Alliance pilot who now leads the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. Jeremy Allen White voices Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba the Hutt, a character first introduced in the animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars; unlike previous Hutts, Rotta is a physical combatant who participates in gladiator-style fights. Jon Favreau directs and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, with Ludwig Goransson returning to compose the score. The film runs 2 hours and 12 minutes and features opening credits, a first for a Star Wars theatrical release. Additional returning characters include Jonny Coyne as the Imperial Warlord Janu, Steve Blum as the voice of Zeb, and Dave Filoni reprising his role as New Republic pilot Trapper Wolf. Martin Scorsese also provides the voice of an Ardennian shopkeeper in a cameo appearance.
