During a visit to the Isles of Scilly Hospital to tour the brand-new “Island’s View” care facility, William spent time speaking with elderly residents preparing to move into the new rooms. But no one made a bigger impression on him than 94-year-old Dot Elvin, whose playful charm instantly transformed the atmosphere of the visit.

As William sat beside her for tea and introduced himself, Dot wasted absolutely no time flirting with the Prince of Wales.

“Are you coming to stay?” she cheekily asked.

William immediately burst into laughter before delivering a response nobody expected from the future King.

“Stay in your room? There’s only one bed, Dot,” he joked. “It might be a bit cosy!”

But Dot was not backing down.

“I don’t care,” she replied without hesitation.

At that point, William completely lost it. Slapping his knee with laughter, the Prince grinned and answered, “Well, in that case, Dot… I’m sure we’ll come to some sort of arrangement.”

The hilarious exchange instantly became the emotional highlight of the day, showing a relaxed and playful side of William that royal fans rarely get to see during official appearances.

And Dot wasn’t finished yet.

Clearly charmed by the Prince, she quickly asked whether Princess Catherine might join him next time he visited.

William’s response melted the room.

He laughed and admitted he would probably need Kate there “to protect” him from Dot’s advances — sending nurses, staff members, and residents into another round of laughter.

But behind the humor, the visit carried a deeper emotional meaning.

While touring the new healthcare facility, William also spent time with 102-year-old Hilda Richards, currently recovering after suffering a fall at home. When staff revealed her age, William initially joked, “I never ask a lady how old she is…”

But Hilda proudly interrupted him herself.

“I’m 102.”

William’s face immediately changed to genuine amazement.

“You’re not? Hilda, my goodness, that’s amazing,” he said warmly. “You don’t look anywhere near 102.”

The visit showcased not only William’s natural humor, but also the compassionate and deeply human approach many royal supporters believe increasingly defines his public role.

Beyond the hospital itself, the Prince also met local construction workers helping build the new community facility, learning firsthand about the enormous logistical challenges of developing healthcare infrastructure on remote islands.

The engagement also carried emotional significance for the local community following the devastation caused by Storm Goretti, which battered the Isles of Scilly with winds approaching 100mph and destroyed hundreds of trees across the islands.

To honor the island’s recovery efforts, William joined emergency responders and planted a Monterey pine tree — a symbolic gesture representing resilience, renewal, and rebuilding after hardship.

The Prince later visited a sustainable housing project aimed at addressing the growing housing shortage facing island residents, continuing his increasing focus on practical community development initiatives across Britain.

Following the visit, William shared a heartfelt message online praising the project and the people behind it.

“Proud of the work we’ve been doing with our partners to open a new hospital facility designed to strengthen healthcare provision on the Isles of Scilly,” he wrote. “The community-led extension brings services together, improving access, continuity of care, and resilience in a remote island setting.”

But despite the serious purpose of the day, it was one unforgettable conversation over tea that left people talking.

Because sometimes, even future Kings can get completely outmatched by a fearless 94-year-old woman named Dot.
