For months, speculation surrounding Prince George’s next school has dominated conversations among royal commentators and British media alike. As the eldest son of Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales enters the final stage of his education at Lambrook School in Berkshire, questions over where the future king will continue his studies have only intensified.

Would George follow in his father’s footsteps and attend the prestigious Eton College? Or could he instead choose the path closer to his mother’s heart at Marlborough College?

Until now, Kensington Palace has remained silent. But during a lighthearted radio appearance this week, Prince William appeared to accidentally drop a revealing detail live on air.

The Prince of Wales joined Heart Radio hosts Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston for a candid conversation covering everything from family life to the school morning routine inside the Wales household. What began as a humorous discussion quickly sparked fresh headlines when William casually referenced Prince George’s boarding arrangements.

While sending a playful message to his children during the broadcast, William said:

“Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, Charlotte and Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please.”

The seemingly harmless comment instantly caught attention because it publicly confirmed that Prince George has already begun boarding during parts of the school term at Lambrook.

Although boarding options at the Berkshire school have always existed for pupils between the ages of seven and thirteen, this marks one of the clearest indications yet that George is gradually being prepared for life at secondary school — and potentially for the traditions associated with elite British boarding education.

The revelation reignited speculation that Eton College may still be the strongest contender for George’s future.

The historic institution has long been closely associated with the royal family. Prince William and Prince Harry both attended the prestigious school, which is located near Windsor and offers a combination of academic prestige, royal familiarity, and heightened security that many believe makes it an ideal choice for the future monarch.

At the same time, supporters of Marlborough College continue to speculate whether Princess Catherine may prefer a different route for her eldest son. Unlike Eton’s all-boys environment, Marlborough is co-educational and has become increasingly popular among modern royal observers who believe William and Kate prioritize a more balanced and grounded upbringing for their children.

Royal education expert Melanie Sanderson recently suggested the couple may still be weighing multiple possibilities behind closed doors.

“I feel as though the Waleses may be holding multiple places at different schools,” she explained while speaking on HELLO!’s Right Royal Podcast.

“It sort of feels as though if they had made a definitive decision, somebody would know, and it would be out there.”

Sanderson also pointed out that ordinary school admission timelines would normally require parents to commit to decisions fairly quickly. However, she hinted that standard rules may not necessarily apply to the royal family.

Behind the headlines, however, William’s radio appearance revealed something far more personal about life inside the Wales household.

Far from the rigid image often associated with royalty, the future king described mornings filled with guitars, forgotten school bags, jam sandwiches, sibling disagreements, and constant rushing out the door.

“It can be chaotic,” William admitted with a laugh.

“If there’s a guitar lesson going on in the morning — a music lesson — you’ve got to get the guitar in the car. No, we’re not taking the guitar; we need the bag for school. Are we boarding? No, we’re not. Are we seeing friends? No, we’re not. So there’s all that going on.”

The prince also joked that Prince Louis leaves jam fingerprints throughout the family car thanks to his love of jam sandwiches during the school run.

For many royal fans, the candid conversation offered a rare glimpse into the surprisingly relatable realities of parenting inside the royal family — even while enormous decisions about the future king quietly unfold in the background.

And although Kensington Palace still refuses to confirm where Prince George will continue his education next year, one thing now appears increasingly clear:

The transition has already begun.
