A California family is demanding answers after doorbell camera footage appeared to show an Amazon delivery driver taking their beloved pet cat during a package delivery.
According to homeowner Brenda Wilson, Ring camera footage captured the driver dropping off a package at her Bakersfield home before allegedly picking up the family’s cat, Junie, and walking away with her.
Wilson said she was left stunned after reviewing the footage.
“Utter disbelief … that anybody would have the nerve to do that. I’m just shocked,” she told local outlet KGET.
The video reportedly shows the driver interacting with Junie moments before carrying the cat away. Wilson speculated that the driver may have believed the cat was friendly and approachable.
“Maybe he just really thought she was the most chill cat ever,” Wilson said. “He kind of made a sound to her, and you can see that as he got closer, she meowed at him.”
Junie, who has been part of the Wilson family since 2022, has still not returned home. Wilson noted that the cat is familiar with the area and would know how to make her way back if released nearby.
“She knows what to do,” Wilson explained. “She’ll come straight to the garage, get inside the house, and do what she has to do.”
The family filed a police report following Junie’s disappearance, and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident is now being investigated as an apparent “theft of a cat.”
In a statement, Amazon said the driver involved was employed through a third-party Delivery Service Partner rather than directly by Amazon itself.
“We’re looking into it and working with law enforcement as they investigate,” an Amazon spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Wilson has continued sharing photos and information about Junie online in hopes the missing cat will safely return home.
