Once hailed as the unbreakable brothers who walked behind Princess Diana’s coffin side by side, Prince William and Prince Harry are now said to be living in completely different emotional worlds — with insiders warning that the damage between them may be far worse than the public realizes.
Three years after the release of Harry’s explosive memoir Spare, royal author Omid Scobie claims the Duke of Sussex is still waiting for something he believes may never come: accountability from his older brother.
According to Scobie, the silence between the two princes has become so absolute that they have reportedly not even exchanged pleasantries since their last face-to-face meeting in 2022. Behind Palace walls, what was once a lifelong bond has allegedly hardened into emotional distance, unresolved anger, and mutual distrust.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Scobie painted a picture of a deeply frustrated Harry who, despite everything that has happened, still hoped for a private conversation capable of healing years of resentment.
“Harry was still waiting for that moment of accountability from his brother,” Scobie revealed, explaining that the Duke wanted an opportunity to finally address the grievances that had quietly built up over the years and move forward.
But according to the royal author, that moment never came.
Instead, William — now firmly focused on his future role as King — reportedly chose to keep the emotional door shut.

Scobie claimed that after Spare sent shockwaves through the monarchy in 2023, Harry made several attempts to reconnect with William, both directly and through mutual friends trusted by both brothers. Yet every effort allegedly hit the same cold wall.
“The ball was always in William’s court,” Scobie argued. “And he’s chosen not just to knock it back, but to kick it in the other direction.”
The comments are likely to reignite debate surrounding the future of the monarchy — particularly as William prepares for the enormous responsibility of one day becoming both King and head of the Church of England.
While King Charles has reportedly made cautious efforts to keep communication with Harry alive — including their widely discussed reunion in the UK last September — William appears far less willing to revisit painful family wounds.
Royal insiders suggest the Prince of Wales has instead buried himself in duty, public service, and protecting his wife Catherine and their children from further turmoil.
Yet some within royal circles are now quietly questioning whether refusing reconciliation could ultimately damage William’s public image as a future monarch.

Sources speaking to OK! magazine warned that the feud is no longer viewed as merely a private family dispute. Instead, it risks becoming symbolic of William’s leadership style and emotional character in the eyes of the public.
“If he is perceived as unable to bridge the most personal of divides,” one insider reportedly explained, “that impression inevitably carries weight beyond the confines of the Palace.”
For many royal watchers, the tragedy lies not only in the collapse of a brotherhood once admired around the world — but in the growing sense that neither side truly knows how to return to what they once were.
And as years continue to pass in silence, the question haunting the House of Windsor remains painfully simple:
Can two brothers who once survived heartbreak together ever find their way back to each other again?
