Former reality television star Josh Duggar will now remain behind bars longer than previously expected after federal prison officials pushed back his projected release date for a third time.
According to multiple reports, Duggar’s expected release from federal custody has been moved from December 23, 2032, to February 2, 2033.
Duggar, 38, is currently serving a 12-year and seven-month sentence at the Seagoville Federal Correctional Institution in Texas after being convicted in 2021 on charges involving child sexual abuse material. He was formally sentenced in May 2022.
Federal officials have not publicly disclosed the exact reason for the latest extension of his sentence timeline. However, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons previously explained that projected release dates can fluctuate for several reasons, including disciplinary actions, changes in earned time credits, participation in prison programs, or additional sentencing adjustments.
This is not the first adjustment to Duggar’s release schedule. His projected release was initially listed as August 12, 2032, before later changing to October 2, 2032, then December 23, 2032, and now February 2, 2033.
Meanwhile, Duggar continues attempting to overturn his conviction through the federal appeals process.
After previously handling portions of his appeals himself, Duggar recently hired Chicago-based attorney Beau B. Brindley, known for representing singer R. Kelly in several high-profile legal matters.
Court records show Duggar appeared virtually during a federal hearing on April 15 that reportedly lasted nearly two hours. As of late April, no ruling had been issued and no additional hearings had been scheduled.
The latest development adds to the continuing legal troubles surrounding the Duggar family.
Earlier this year, Josh Duggar’s younger brother, Joseph Duggar, was arrested in Arkansas and separately charged in Florida in connection with allegations involving child molestation and lewd conduct tied to an alleged 2020 incident involving a minor.
Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, are also facing additional charges in Arkansas related to alleged child endangerment and false imprisonment. Both have pleaded not guilty.
